Hello friends, it's been a while...

It's been a while since I felt the familiar spark of the Crojo (crochet mojo). The other day I sat down to enjoy an episode of Call the Midwife, I grabbed a skein of yarn, my hook and thought to just relax and crochet a bit. This hat is the result. I had been thinking too hard about what my next project would be and I think just relaxing and playing a bit was the ticket. It's a simple easy to work pattern that you can whip up in an afternoon.

The hat uses one full skein of Vanna's Choice (170 yds). If you would like to add a pompom, I would suggest a second skein, or another worsted weight yarn with more yardage.

Enjoy! Lisa

Criss Cross Slouchy

Materials Used:

Yarn: Vanna’s Choice, Color: Rust (any worsted weight yarn will work) Yardage: 170 YDS or 3.5 oz Hook size: 5.5 mm Darning Needle

Notes: This pattern uses the entire 3.5 oz skein of Vanna’s Choice (170 yds). I had a long enough tail to seam the hat, and close the crown. If you’d like to add a pompom, I would suggest a second skein or working fewer rows. The hat is worked in rows and seamed. The HDC3LO is worked on the front (working side) of the hat. When working the stitches of the first row, work them into the back bump of the foundation chain.

Gauge: 7 rows and 7 stitches = 4”

End Measurements: Band measures approx. 21” Crown to band measures approx. 10”

Stitches Used:

SLST: Slip Stitch CH: Chain SLSTBLO: Slip stitch back loop only HDC3LO: Half double crochet in the 3rd loop XDC: Crossed Double Crochet

Instructions for XDC:

Skip one stitch, DC into next stitch, working over the previous DC, DC in skipped stitch.

Instructions for HDC3LO:

Work a half double crochet in the third loop of the previous rows HDC’s. It’s going to be on the FRONT (working side) of your rows in this pattern.

Instructions:

Foundation Row: CH 37

Row 1: SLST in 2nd CH from hook, and in next 5 CH spaces, XDC in next 24 CH spaces, HDC in next 6 CH spaces, CH 2, turn. (36 Sts)

Row 2: HDC3LO in next 6 sts, XDC in next 24 sts, SLSTBLO in next 6 sts, CH 1, turn.

Row3: SLSTBLO in next 6sts, XDC in next 24 sts, HDC3LO in next 6 sts, CH 2, turn.

Rows 4-43: Repeat rows 2 and 3, ending last row at hat bottom. Fasten off leaving a long tail to seam the hat and close the crown. Fold right sides of hat together, and using the darning needle, stitch the hat together. Thread the remaining bit of tail through the top loops of the crown stitches, pulling tight to secure crown of hat. Tie off. Weave in all ends, and turn hat right side out.
