Learning a new skill...

*** PATTERN EDITED 1/24/17 VIDEO TUTORIAL ADDED BELOW! If you find pattern mistakes please let me know. :) When I started crocheting, I wanted a hobby I wouldn't grow bored of. Crochet hasn't let me down yet. I learn something new everyday! I've been intrigued by tunisian crochet for some time, and wanted to set about learning the basics. There are not as many books out there, as with regular crochet, but if you dig a little, you'll find enough info to learn a great new skill. I started watching Youtube video's (Kim Guzman is amazing, btw), and learned a few simple stitches. I became comfortable with the unique way the rows are made, and started playing around a bit with different stitch formations.

This pattern is born out of an afternoon of swatch making. It's an easy, fun pattern for any beginner tunisian crochet enthusiast! Using Lion Brand Hometown USA, and this fun open stitch, you'll end up with a wonderfully soft scarf with great movement. I'd love to see your projects when you are done! Link back to ravelry and show off your work!

Crochet love, Lisa

Materials Used:

Yarn: Lion Brand Hometown USA Color Chicago Charcoal Yardage: 243

Tunisian crochet hook Size 10.00mm

Yarn needle

Stitches Used: CH: Chain TDS: Tunisian double stitch (double crochet) Directions for working in top loop: Rather than working the double stitch into the vertical bar, you will yarn over, and pull up loop through the top loop (bump) at the very top of the last row’s stitches.

Notes:

Stitch count is made at end of return pass on the vertical loops. Use looser tension on return pass, or the top loop will be difficult to work into on the forward pass. The beginning stitch of the forward pass is directly above the 1st tds of the last row (not the beginning ch of previous row).

Gauge: 4 rows and 10 stitches = 5”

End Measurements: 10” wide approx. 75” long.

Instructions:

Foundation Row: Ch3, tds twice into 3rd ch from hook, ch1 make return pass. (3)

Make two

Cut 20 pieces of yarn at about 10” in length. Thread half of the yarn pieces through the 1st and 2nd vertical stitches of the end of the scarf (beginning row of three stitches), thread the remaining pieces through the 2nd and 3rd vertical stitches of the end row. Cut one more length of yarn, and secure the tassel with a knot. Wrap each end of the length of yarn around the tassel a few more times to secure. Weave in ends. Cut tassel to desired length.
